Interview with Jamie Hull

Interview with Jamie Hull

Today, we're chatting with Jamie Hull. He has recently become the World Champion and holds the title of UK Champion inScooter riding.

Hi Jamie, could you tell us which title you have just won and what it signifies for you?

“I’ve just returned from Argentina where I won the World Skate World Championship. This has been my dream since I first started riding, hoping that one day I’d become a World Champion, and now it has become a reality. It proves that if you believe in yourself and keep pushing forward, you can achieve your dreams. It took 10 years of competing, but the journey has been worth it.”

What is the significance of this achievement to you?

“Being World Champion means everything to me, ever since I watched the first Deeside World Championships when I was 10. I am delighted and proud to have represented my country in Argentina and brought home the Gold Medal. It means everything and has motivated me to ride and progress even more now than before. I love my sport.”

Could you share a bit about yourself and how you got into scootering?

“I began riding at the age of 9 and instantly loved it. I enjoyed trying to learn new tricks, and althoughScootersscooters weren’t permitted in most indoor skateparks, as soon as we found a park that allowed them, I pushed myself to learn as much as possible in the limited time we had. When Deeside Skatepark opened, I was just 10 years old, and it made a huge difference. Even without foam pits or resi ramps, being able to ride indoors was amazing. I really advanced my tricks and, more importantly, made some fantastic friends. Without them and that park, I probably wouldn’t be riding today, as it took a long time before Deeside opened their other parks to scooter riders. At my first ISA World Championship, I competed in the International Open Age amateur competition and finished in 4th place.”

“Several companies approached me for sponsorship, but I chose to accept an offer from MGP (Madd Gear Action Sports), becoming the youngest professional scooter rider at 10 years old. I rode for MGP for 5 years, then switched to District Scooters for 2 years before moving to Apex at 17, where I still ride now. I've achieved many of my goals on the way to becoming a World Champion, including

UK Champion and European Champion.”

Who are your inspirations?

“I admire many riders, but particularly Dakota Schuetz. He was one of the first riders I started watching on YouTube. When I saw him at the first ISA competition, I thought WOW, he was incredible. I’m thrilled to say he’s now a close friend, and I’ve learned so much from him. He has been a true inspiration and mentor.”

How long have you been scootering?

“Nearly 11 years.”

What are your most significant accomplishments?

Jamie listed his most notable achievements in competition:

Overview of the championships - what is it and why is it significant?

"The Championships hold importance because they offer riders an objective to pursue. It provides a target and indicates who excels. It encourages riders to master the best tricks while maintaining their fitness, as competing is demanding and being an athlete involves gym work. It also motivates new riders to get involved, especially as this year the World Skate Finals were broadcast live on the Olympic TV channel."

What were your personal highlights of the championships?

"The highlight was undoubtedly winning, being at the top of the podium, and listening to the National Anthem while the Union Jack was displayed on the big screens."

Which other riders participated in the championships?

"Bart Oskroba secured 2nd place and Chris Farris came in 3rd."

What are you currently focusing on and what does the future look like for you?

"Currently, I am preparing for the UK Championships scheduled for December at Adrenaline Alley. After that, with the onset of 2023, I aim to advance my riding skills and hopefully continue winning. There are numerous world-first tricks I aspire to land, so I hope to achieve more World Firsts in 2023."

How long have you been associated with SkateHut?

"I have been affiliated with Skatehut for around 2 years now."

Can you describe your connection with SkateHut and your future vision with us?
