Highlighting Mental Health Awareness Week with SkateHut

In today's fast-moving world filled with countless duties, it's so easy to neglect the importance of our mental health. Yet, amidst the hustle and bustle of life, Mental Health Awareness Week shines as a hopeful beacon, encouraging us to stop, think, and prioritize the most critical part of our lives, our mental well-being.

SkateHut recently carried out a survey to investigate the skateboarding community and their mental health challenges. The survey reached out to a group of 1,000 people, including skateboarders from various backgrounds, ages, and skill levels.

The findings revealed that skateboarding serves as a way to ease stress, fight anxiety, and reduce depression. Interviews with skateboarders frequently highlighted the sensation of escape and freedom experienced while skating. One individual stated, "Skating gives me joy and freedom. I can transform my fears into liberation. It's difficult to explain, but skaters understand." Another shared how skating boosted confidence and offered a mental retreat during tough periods. The positive effects of skateboarding on mental health are evident. It enhances confidence, reduces anxiety, and releases natural dopamine, nourishing both heart and soul.

Ben Raemers foundation

Ben Raemers, considered one of the most outstanding British skateboarders ever, tragically took his life in May 2019 at the age of 28. In response to this heart-wrenching loss and motivated by the community's wish to make a change, the Ben Raemers Foundation was established.

The foundation's objective is to preserve Ben's legacy and help prevent further suicides. Their goal is to provide the skateboarding community with the opportunities to develop skills and tools necessary to support each other in comprehending and addressing mental health issues.
