Our latest entry in the skatepark series focuses on Belfast. As the capital of Northern Ireland, Belfast's skateboarding community is gaining momentum. Recently, Bobby Worrest and the Red Bull team visited to see what the city had in store before exploring the rest of Northern Ireland.
Consequently, Belfast boasts some excellent small skate spots. Two in particular stand out. Let's delve into more detail…
1. Bridges Urban Sports Park
Situated beneath the M3 overpass, Bridges Urban Sports Park offers facilities for skateboarding, in-line skating, parkour, and BMX. The park is entirely concrete, featuring both street and transition areas. Skateparks are somewhat scarce in Northern Ireland, and Bridges Urban Sports Park is the only outdoor concrete park in the region.
The transition area features a single rectangular bowl, a long extension, and a curved section inset into one side. The street section includes a flat bank leading to a hubba.
On the opposite side, there's a bowled area with a manny pad and a down kicker. Beyond this, you'll encounter a flat bank with an inset ledge leading to a pyramid with a quarter pipe.
Overall, it's a remarkable facility in a distinctive setting. With an exceptionally smooth bowl and lines that accommodate both beginners and seasoned skaters, Bridges Urban Sports Park has a line to suit everyone.
• Opening hours: These change throughout the year; you can find a complete list here.
• Cost: Free, but parking requires payment at a nearby pay and display car park.
• Location: 37-41 Little Patrick Street, Belfast, BT1 3
• Website: https://www.belfastcity.gov.uk/parks
While Belfast may not offer an extensive selection of skateparks, these two are fantastic small options brimming with character, unique obstacles, and places to sharpen your skills. Plus, if you're in the mood for a longer journey, you can visit Carrickfergus Skatepark as well... though it's a half-hour drive. Grab your board and start skating in Belfast. And remember to inform us if you discover any other great spots.
