If you find yourself wandering around the lovely city of Birmingham this summer, you might spot some BEAR-Y peculiar animals hanging around. But don't worry, they won't bite! These bears are part of an exciting charity project in partnership with Birmingham Children's Hospital and Wild In Art called The Big Sleuth (Sleuth is the collective noun for a group of bears – something new to learn every day), and each one features a unique and creative design crafted by different artists!
At SkateHut, we take pride in supporting charitable causes, and this year we have chosen Birmingham Children's Hospital as our charity of choice. It would have been remiss of us not to sponsor one of these fantastic bears! Additionally, we're thrilled to support The Big Sleuth and raise awareness about Sun Bears, which are currently facing the threat of extinction, as they are incredibly adorable and the world would be poorer without them!
In the coming weeks, our bear will be decorated by a local artist, preparing her for her grand entrance into the community. Drawing inspiration from the strength and empowerment of the Roller Derby community, our bear will be adorned in striking Roller Derby gear from head to toe, complete with skates, knee pads, and, most importantly, tattoos!
Naturally, like all Roller Derby players, our bear requires a name that captures her spirited personality in the most quirky and paw-some manner possible (all bear puns welcome), so keep an eye out for our name-the-bear competition, along with plenty of other exciting events and opportunities to participate!

A huge thank you goes out to The Birmingham Blitz Dames and The Crash Test Brummies who came out to meet our bear.
