Celebrating International Women's Day 2024: Women and Skateboard Brands

In the constantly evolving world of skateboarding, women are making their own space on the streets, defying stereotypes and leaving a lasting impact on the scene. Here are some women-owned brands to watch in 2024...

Salon Skateboards

Salon Skateboards is a unisex skate brand from London, established by Stefani Nurding. It is among the few female-owned skate companies in the UK. Salon produces a variety of items ranging from stickers to skateboards and apparel.

Meow Skateboards

In 2012, Whitaker initiated Meow Skateboards, a brand aimed at "having fun and producing high-quality products to support an all-female team." Based in LA, the brand provides decks and clothing featuring their iconic cat logo and diverse fun cartoon designs. Alongside the feline theme, their boards also incorporate a distinctly feminine touch in color and visual style. Embracing diversity within the skateboarding world is one of Meow Skateboards’ core principles. They take pride in having a team of riders representing a broad range of backgrounds and experiences.

Doyenne

Doyenne is a skateboarding brand led by women, established in 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland. The brand is described as "more of a movement than a business" with the mission to make skateboarding more inclusive. Initially launched as a social project, it donates 10% of all proceeds to charities, which helps make skateboarding accessible in regions like Afghanistan, Palestine, and Cambodia. Doyenne designs inclusive gender-neutral clothing and skateboards. They use colors to embody the brand philosophy: "Wearing a bright color is an act of confidence and courage. That’s what we want our customers to feel when they wear our clothes."

Women Paving the Way in Skateboarding

At SkateHut, we're inspired by the women who are setting new trends and styles in the skateboarding community. We've witnessed some fantastic role models and amazing emerging skaters making their mark in the professional scene, particularly in one of our favorite events, Survival of the Sickest. This event helps develop and promote younger riders, boosting their confidence and enabling them to meet new friends and mentors. Let's continue to celebrate and support women in skateboarding, skating, and all sports globally! Make sure to check back on our blog for more articles like this in the future, and join us on our socials, as we always love to hear your thoughts. Happy skating everyone!
